January 6th – Who Benefitted?

My guess is most people reading this will not know who this man is and why he is relevant to January 6th… Before we get to the gentleman let’s start with an important question – Who benefitted from the so-called “insurrection” on January 6th? Did Donald Trump? No… not only has January 6th been used…

My guess is most people reading this will not know who this man is and why he is relevant to January 6th… Before we get to the gentleman let’s start with an important question – Who benefitted from the so-called “insurrection” on January 6th? Did Donald Trump? No… not only has January 6th been used to disparage and attack Trump for over 4 years, Trump was also indicted for his actions on January 6th. How about the Republican party? No again. Hard to see a benefit when main stream and social media and the Dems have used the events of Jan. 6th to attack the party and its nominee for President in 2024 right up to and including today. And that won’t end.

I wrote a new article with new information concerning this story. It is January 6th – The Rest of the Rest of the Story.

I know somebody might contact me regarding my use of the phrase “so-called insurrection” and ask me if I do not believe January 6th was in insurrection. By dictionary definition January 6th could be labelled an insurrection but if you think what happened on January 6th was a huge danger to democracy or could somehow overthrow the U.S. government, let’s just say you and I have very different ideas when it comes to the strength of democracy in general and the power and strength of the U.S. government. The bottom line is the “insurrection” would have never occurred or could have been stopped easily by National Guardsmen being on site. Why they weren’t is really a main focus of this article.

So who benefitted? Actually the two groups who benefitted the most from January 6th are 1) all the main stream and social media outlets that hate Trump and/or the Republican party. That day was like blood in the water for sharks. It has been a feeding frenzy for them that is still going on. It was the gift that seems to keep on giving and giving. 2nd) The Democratic Party clearly benefitted. They have utilized that day to attack the “enemy,” i.e. Trump and Republicans and all those deplorable MAGA supporters. They were able to convene a House committee to investigate January 6th (more on that coming up). That committee helped get Trump indicted. Certainly no one should be surprised that the Democrats are using that day as a weapon against Trump and the Republicans. After all, all is fair in love and war… and politics!

However, stop and consider what had to happen for January 6th to occur!

The man in the above picture is former Chief of the Capital Police, Steven Sund. He was the chief on January 6th. Let me ask you a very simple question…. if you headed a committee purposefully organized to investigate the events of January 6th (i.e. if you were Nancy Pelosi) or you were a member of said committee (i.e. Liz Cheney), do you think you would want to interview and question Chief Sund regarding the events of that day? I think it is impossible to come up with a reason why you would not want the Chief of the Capitol Police to testify and yet apparently he was never subpoenaed to appear before that committee. Isn’t that bizarre? Keep reading and you may have a better idea why that never happened.

The testimony that I do reference in this article did not happen before Pelosi, Cheney and that January 6th committee. Instead it occurred in September 2023 when former Chief Sund appeared before the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, 2 and a half years after January 6th, 2021. In the 2022 mid term elections the Republicans took back control of the House of Representatives and therefore took control of the House committees. If that had not happened I am 100% sure Sund’s testimony would never have occurred.

FYI – Regarding the creation of committees in general and the January 6th committee specifically, the party that controls the House (Dems back then) can decide to set up a committee to investigate something… in this case, the events of January 6th. They then appoint “X” number of members to the committee always making sure they have more members on the committee than the other party (That way if the committee needs to vote on anything, they win… that is politics). The head of the other party (Republicans in this case) then appoints “X” number of members of his party to be on the committee, the “X” being pre-determined by the party in power. That is the way it is “usually/mostly/always” done but not when it came to the January 6th committee. Democrat Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, refused to let Republican Kevin McCarthy, leader of the Republicans in the House of Representatives, appoint the members of his choosing. Instead Pelosi hand picked the Republicans for her committee. What a surprise and shock that along with 7 anti-Trump Democrats, Pelosi allowed only 2 Republicans to be on the committee, Republicans Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, two of the most anti-Trump Republicans on the planet. No one is naive or foolish enough to think that these committees are not established with a built in bias but clearly Nancy did not care one iota if her committee reeked of bias through and through. Speaker Pelosi didn’t give a “damn” about the optics… remember that word! It will be important!

In his testimony before a congressional committee what did Steven Sund say? I am going to summarize for you what I believe to be the most important facts in his testimony but feel free watch his testimony. You can find it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgsNBD8Rpcw (It takes a few minutes into the video to get to Sund testifying.)

In his five minute introduction Chief Sund drops one bombshell after another testifying that January 6th was…

1) A massive intelligence failure. He states that though some in the intelligence gathering field “knew” that violence was possible and the Capital building being breached was a very real possibility, he was not informed. Zero intelligence agencies sounded the alarm. I guess the Chief of the Capitol Police must somehow be outside the “need to know” group when it comes to possible attacks on the Capital. This was either unbelievable inept, grossly negligent or … dare I say intentional?

2) He also states that if the FBI and DHS (Department of Homeland Security) had simply followed standard policies and practices the events of January 6th could have been prevented. That assumes of course, they wanted it prevented. As I write this, the FBI is still refusing to divulge how many FBI “assets” were in the crowd on January 6th. Let’s be blunt, if the answer was zero, the FBI would be proclaiming it loud and clear.

3) Are you ready for this next one… For this one you need to know that the “head” security officer for the Senate and the House of Representatives is NOT the Chief of the Capitol Police. Both the Senate and the House have Sergeant at Arms who are the heads of security for each house. Though voted on, they are really appointed by the Senate Majority Leader and the Speaker of the House. On January 6th Paul Irving was the Sergeant at Arms for the House and Michael Stenger was the Sergeant at Arms for the Senate. On January 3rd Chief Sund contacted both Irving and Stenger and requested the help of the National Guard on January 6th. Despite being kept out of the intelligence loop, Sund was wise enough to request National Guard assistance.

His request was denied because… are you ready… because of their concern over the politics and the OPTICS (there is that word) that would be created by having the National Guard on the grounds of the Capital. Further they stated that the intelligence they had access to suggested that the National Guard would not be needed, contradicting other intelligence agencies apparently. (Strange how often the intelligence guys seem to get it wrong!) Stenger suggested Sund come up with another idea rather than use the National Guard. (Maybe Stenger should have come up with another idea!) Regardless the key “FACT” is that some 72 hours prior to January 6th the Chief of the Capitol Police had his request for National Guard support denied by both Sergeant at Arms supposedly because of OPTICS! A simple yes here and January 6th never happens!

4) On January 6th at 12:58 PM with the Capital being or about to be breached, Chief Sund called House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving and requested/begged for National Guard assistance. Irving’s response was “Let me run it up the chain and I will get back to you.” Paul Irving’s “boss” and the only person “up that chain” was Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. It took Paul Irving 71 minutes to get back to Sund with “approval” (file that word away because we aren’t done with that word either). In those 71 minutes Sund made 32 calls to various law enforcement organizations trying to get help. 11 of those calls were repeated calls made to Irving as Sund continually tried to get Irving’s approval. (FYI – the New Jersey State Police responded and actually showed up well before the National Guard. In case you don’t know, it is over 200 miles from New Jersey to Washington. The National Guard were 2 miles away from the Capital building.)

5) In another hard to believe moment… After finally receiving “approval” from the Sergeant at Arms, Chief Sund then had to ask/beg the Pentagon to send in the National Guard. His request was denied! Who said no? Meet Army Lieutenant General Walter Piatt. Why you may ask would Lt. General Piatt deny the assistance? Wait for it… Because Piatt was concerned over the “OPTICS” of the National Guard being on Capital Hill. Think about that… the Capitol Police and other police on site were being overwhelmed, the Capitol was being breached, people were being injured and in fact one person was killed and Lieutenant General Piatt is concerned about “optics.” Apparently when it comes to Lt. General Piatt, he must believe the “optics” of a riot at the Capitol and the Capitol building being breached are better “optics” than the National Guard showing up and quelling the riot and securing the building!!! In what universe does that make sense? Unless of course… that is the optic you wanted. (I need to quit that… starting to sound like a conspiracy theory.)

FYI, Are we surprised that Lt. General Piatt was asked by the January 6th committee to testify and did so? What might be surprising is this… In a memo sent to the January 6th committee, Col. Earl Matthews, who was serving as top attorney to Major General William Walker, the commanding general of the D.C. National Guard on January 6th, called both deputy chief of staff for operations Gen. Charles Flynn and Lt. General Piatt “unmitigated liars” when it came to their testimony regarding January 6th. The US Army issued a report regarding the events of January 6th. Regarding that report, Col. Matthews called it “a revisionist tract worthy of the best Stalinist or North Korea propagandist.” Regarding his memo, Col. Matthews told Politico “Our Army has never failed us and did not do so on January 6, 2021. However, occasionally some of our Army leaders have failed us and they did so on January 6th. Then they lied about it and tried to cover it up. They tried to smear a good man and to erase history.” I believe the man he referred to is Major General William Walker mentioned above. (This is right out of Orwell’s 1984… Personalize attacks and change history.)

6) The National Guard finally showed up…. ready for this… about 6PM after the riot/insurrection was over and the Capital was secured. Unbelievably the Inspector General of the Army stated that the response by the Army was “appropriate.” I cannot imagine what inappropriate would look like. In what world is it an appropriate response to be called in to help end a riot at the Capitol and secure the Capitol building and you show up 3 hours later when the trouble has ended and you were just 2 miles down the road to start with? (To be fair… I have driven in Washington D.C. You have no idea how bad the traffic can be!)

7) In his testimony Sund also stated that complaints and acts of retaliation were occurring against “whistleblowers” who were speaking out about the events of January 6th. Wow… are you as shocked as I am that retaliation might happen against those who want the truth to come out!

8) Back to that word, “approval” that Chief Sund received about 2 PM on the 6th. Apparently the communication pipeline had previously broken down even more than we thought because Sund was never notified that Secretary of Defense sent a memo on January 4th to the Secretary of the Army and as a result of that memo, the Secretary of the Army sent a letter to the Commander General of the D.C. National Guard on January 5th changing the “rules” when it came to what the National Guard could and could not do if employed on January 6th. Apparently once again Captain Sund was clearly not in the “need to know” group. That memo said… well take a look for yourself…

Acting Secretary of Defence Christopher Miller says he did this in to try and prevent another Kent State situation where 4 students were killed and 9 wounded by National Guardsmen on May 4, 1970.

That’s 100% believable.. Or not…

So just to be clear… The Chief of the Capitol Police is asking for help initially to prevent a riot etc. and then he is asking for help to end an out of control riot and the “rules” have been changed so the National Guard can’t use riot control agents, they can’t share equipment with other law enforcement agencies, they can’t be given helmets, body armor, weapons etc. and the Chief of the Capitol Police knows none of this because he was never notified about these changes made in the 48 hours leading up to the 6th!!! I am not the smartest person in the room by a long shot but it seems obvious to me that I might make sure the Chief of the Capitol Police got a copy of the memo/letter. Unless of course….

7) A name that might be familiar to some… General Mark Milley (maybe more on him in another post although I really hope not!) had intelligence suggesting violence could break out on the 6th. Apparently Gen. Milley doesn’t like to share, at least not with Chief Sund. I know this is a conspiracy comment but if I didn’t know better it seems that a lot of people almost wanted January 6th to happen. Oh they would shout from the rooftops how terrible January 6th was and how sad it was for America but underneath the shouting and the sadness I think there might have been something else going on. To quote Rahm Immanuel, Obama’s former White House Chief of Staff…”You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that, it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” Like indict a former President… just saying.

8) It took Speaker of the House Pelosi just one day to call for Chief Sund’s resignation. She stated that she never spoke to Chief Sund on the 6th. OOPS! Sund testified that he spoke with her 3 times and in fact he shared the times he spoke with her, where he was when he spoke with her, who was with him at the time he spoke to her, the topics he discussed with her and in fact, he identified the phones over which the conversations took place, phones that were not his. Sure would be easy for Pelosi to prove Sund was lying don’t you think… or maybe it would be best to make sure he never testified before the January 6th committee and hope his version never sees the light of day. Everything was good until those damned mid term elections happened and the Republicans gained control of the House. Still she knew the main stream media would do all it could to bury Chief Sund’s testimony.

9) Sund stated that the Metropolitan Police Department officers (the City of Washington’s police force) normally get approval from the Capitol Police to go on the Capitol grounds or enter the Capital building. In the course of his testimony it was revealed to him that apparently not only were there MPD plain clothes officers on the grounds of the Capitol without his knowledge, but some of them were encouraging protesters to breach the Capitol. If that sounds surprising or even unbelievable stay tuned because we will definitely be taking a look at that situation and others like it in another blog post. (Hint: Michigan governor Gretchen Widmer’s kidnapping plot etc.)

10) Recently a video has emerged, shot by Nancy Pelosi’s daughter that shows Pelosi driving away from the Capital and taking at least some responsibility for the National Guard not being present. Some!!! A simple yes to Chief Sund’s request on January 3rd and January 6th turns out very different. I am far from a “fan” of Pelosi and I fully believe she is responsible to some degree for the absence of the National Guard but she is not alone. I have mentioned several others in this article that also should bear responsibility for either being completely incompetent or grossly negligent resulting in a gigantic security failure or maybe it was neither incompetence or negligence…. maybe they rolled the dice and got exactly what they wanted!

You can decide for yourself… were people inept, were they negligent or what would be even more concerning, were the actions of some people intentional in an effort to create the situation where the events of January 6th could occur?

I guess if anyone wanted a “model” of what not to do, January 6th is perfect. The Capitol is breached. About 12:58 PM Chief Sund asks Sergeant at Arms Irving for permission to call in the National Guard. Irving say he will run it up the chain. According to Politifact it takes Irving 40 minutes to contact Pelosi’s Chief of Staff at 1:40 PM, 40 minutes after the Capitol was breached. Obvious question – why did it take Irving 40 minutes to get in touch with Pelosi’s Chief of Staff? In that time Chief Sund has made 32 calls for help including 11 to Sund checking on the approval. Finally Pelosi gives her approval only to then have the Pentagon deny Chief Sund the assistance he desperately needs. At some point the Pentagon allows the National Guard to respond and they show up about 5 hours late to be of any use. And based upon the new “rules” issued just the day before, they may have not been much help anyway. You couldn’t make that up! Truth is often stranger than fiction!

I started this with a question… who benefitted from January 6th? I told what I thought at the beginning of this article. Am I suggesting that Pelosi and others orchestrated January 6th? Obviously that would be a conspiracy theory and we don’t engage in those, do we? (although it is strange how many “conspiracy theories” end up being true) However I digress… if I know my staircase is dangerous and I do nothing to fix it and I don’t warn you about its’ condition, and in fact, I remove the warning signs that were there, do you think I am responsible to some degree if you head up the stairs and get hurt when it collapses? Intelligence agencies had information prior to the 6th that things could get out of hand but they didn’t tell Chief Sund how dangerous the situation was. His request for National Guard assistance was denied, delayed, approved, denied and finally approved but by then the damage was done. It appears people flat out lied to cover their a___ (behinds). And all supposedly because of OPTICS! The powers that be… the intelligence community (why are they always involved in a bad way), Pelosi, the 2 Sergeant at Arms, the Army etc. did everything they could to prevent the “optics” of the National Guard being at the Capitol. They did nothing to prevent the optics of a riot and the Capitol being breached because they could take those optics and with the help of their friends in main stream media make Donald Trump look bad. The fact is the Democrats and main stream and social media organizations have spent 4+ years using those “optics” as a political weapon. Something just doesn’t add up.

I am sure there will be more to come on this story should Donald Trump win the 2024 presidential election.
