Being that I am a Canadian. I can’t vote for Trump… can I?

When I let that cat out of the bag back in 2016 that if I could I would vote for Trump, some of the “responses” I received were in fact “You must be ____.” You can fill in the blank and trust me, you aren’t limited to one word nor are you limited to the list above. When I see responses like that I know that the accuser either doesn’t know me at all or they simply don’t care and rather than trying to understand why I would do such a diabolical thing, they resort to personal accusations believing that it somehow validates their position.

It is not the first time I have mentioned the following and it won’t be the last. In community organizer Saul Alinsky’s book, Rules For Radicals there are several “rules” that Alinsky believes those seeking change should incorporate. Here are a couple…

1. “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.
2. “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

Those who baselessly throw out personal accusations of being misogynistic, racist etc. are simply following Alinsky’s rules. I don’t need anyone’s sympathy. I have no intention of making concessions. Nor will the personal attacks hurt me. So here goes!

Misogynistic – Must I hate women if I vote for Trump? We can discuss if Trump hates women although he put Hope Hicks, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Kelly Ann Conway and Mercedes Schlapp in important White House positions. His press operations were 62% female. 4 out of 23 cabinet positions were women. However, only 1 US attorney out of 43 was a women. On the other hand he appointed 3 Supreme Court judges and 1 of those was a woman, Amy Coney Barret. Set all that aside because it isn’t Trump that we are discussing. It is those who vote for him, like I would if I was a US citizen.

The best thing that ever happened to me was marrying my wife, Kelly, some 53 years ago. We are blessed with fantastic daughters, terrific daughters-in-law and super granddaughters. (Sons, sons-in-law and grandsons as well but not relevant when it comes to me being misogynistic.) Do I want the ladies in my family to have every opportunity to be all that they can be, to be the absolute best version of themselves they can be? Do I want them to have every right and freedom I have? Of course and not just for them but for every young girl, for every women on this planet. And yet because I would vote for Trump some people would accuse me of being misogynistic! All of you who want to resort to the “make it personal Alinsky attack strategy” might consider the possibility that overall I support more of Trump’s policies than those of Harris.

Homophobic, Transphobic, Anti-2SLGBTQI+ community… Voting for Trump must mean I am Homophobic, Anti-Trans etc. Within our immediate and extended family we have members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community. Do I want them to live happy productive lives fulfilling their dreams, whatever they may be? Absolutely! Is it really any of my business who they love and choose to live their lives with? NOPE! Can we spend time together, enjoy each other’s company etc.? For sure! However, for argument’s sake, let’s say the 2SLGBTQI+ community believes there is a Trump policy that would negatively impact them and let’s say I would agree with them. So if I voted for Trump apparently that would confirm that I am homophobic, transphobic and/or anti- 2SLGBTQI+. OR… maybe when it comes to personal freedom, the economy, the border/immigration, foreign policy, free speech, crime etc. I prefer Trump’s policies so I would vote for him and at the same time work to change the policy that the 2SLGBTQI+ community disagrees with.

Islamophobia… Let’s move to being Islamophobic if I vote for Trump. This one gets a little more complicated because we have to be more specific. Do I hate/fear Muslims, i.e. the people who follow Islam, or do I hate/fear Islam, i.e. the religion, or do I hate what I believe is an extreme version of Islam? One “reason” the main stream media etc. said Trump was Islamophobic was because at one point he banned travel from certain countries with large Muslim populations. The fact that it was only a small number of “Muslim” countries was immaterial to the Trump accusers. In their minds this was all the proof they needed. Somehow the fact that Trump didn’t ban travel from most Muslim countries including the country with the largest Muslim population, Indonesia, was apparently not relevant. Let’s be honest, if you are trying to paint someone as Islamophobic the fact he did NOT ban travel from Saudi Arabia, or Qatar, or India, or a lot of other countries with large Muslim populations doesn’t help your cause so you just ignore it. Bottom line was this, Trump banned travel from countries that he and/or the U.S. government thought terrorists might use as a departure point trying to get into the USA.

If admitting that I do not want my wife, daughters, daughters-in-law, granddaughters etc. growing up under sharia law makes me Islamophobic, so be it. I recognize that this is not the case in every Muslim country, but I want all females to have the same rights as males, to be able vote, to drive, to go to school, to dress as they choose, to travel without needing a male’s permission etc. In regards to travel, that would include applying for asylum or a visa on her own, if she chose to do so. If women have the freedom/choice and choose to live under Islamic rules within whatever form of Islam they follow, so be it, but I do want all women to have the freedom to choose and to be honest, I do not want my home country of Canada to become a Muslim nation functioning under Sharia law.

In an upcoming post which will probably be very controversial I am going to address the Israel/Palestine situation. Setting aside which side you or I support… Am I Islamophobic if I vehemently oppose suicide bombings? Am I Islamophobic if I oppose women being jailed for not “properly” wearing an article of clothing?

I admit to being very puzzled and possibly completely wrong but my perception is that a large number of those within the 2SLGBTQI+ community and those who support said community seem to very anti Israel and pro Hamas/Palestine although I would suggest that being pro Palestine and pro Hamas could be very different. However, if you joining protests where the chant is “from the river to the sea” that tells me that either you are pro Hamas or you have never taken the time to look into the Israel/Palestine conflict and probably have very little knowledge about the history of the area.

I am not part of the 2SLGBTQI+ community but if I were and someone asked me the following question I know what my answer would be. If I had to choose between living in Israel and Iran, with 100% certainty my answer would be Israel. If you do not understand why I would say that, I would suggest you need to do some research on the view and acceptance of the 2SLGBTQI+ community within Israel and Iran or Afghanistan for example.

Anti-Hispanic… I have seen the terms anti-Mexican, anti-Latino and anti-Hispanic used. Permit me in this article to use anti-Hispanic to refer to all three. (Apologies if that is politically incorrect.) I find it fascinating how many people accuse Trump and those who would vote for him to be anti-Hispanic because… No rocket science needed… Trump and his supporters want the Southern border closed to curb illegal immigration and other issues brought on by an open border and they want illegal aliens deported, especially if they have a criminal past or commit a crime while in the USA illegally.

The “charge” of being Anti-Hispanic becomes ludicrous when it is pointed out that some polls show that many Mexicans, Latinos and Hispanics support tougher immigration laws, a secure border and mass deportations. In an Ipsos/Telemundo poll in March of 2024 42% of respondents said they supported a fence/wall being built along the entire southern border between the USA and Mexico and 38% supported “sending all undocumented immigrants in the U.S. back to their countries of origin.” Are these Mexican, Latino and Hispanic respondents anti-____? Obviously not but because I would vote for the guy who I think might actually do something about the border crisis I am anti-Hispanic.

Remember when main stream media declared with great gusto how racist Trump was because he called Mexicans “animals.” Reuters posted the following quote by Trump.. “The Democrats say, ‘Please don’t call them animals. They’re humans.’ I said, ‘No, they’re not humans, they’re not humans, they’re animals,’” said Trump, president from 2017 to 2021. there you have it, absolute proof except…

Preceding that quote Reuters pointed out… “While speaking of Laken Riley – a 22-year-old nursing student from Georgia allegedly murdered by a Venezuelan immigrant in the country illegally – Trump said some immigrants were sub-human.” So was Trump referring to all illegal aliens? I think not.

Here is another example from NBC News. President Donald Trump on Thursday defended his use of the word “animals” to describe some undocumented immigrants, explaining that he was referring specifically to members of the brutal MS-13 gang.

“We have laws that are laughed at on immigration,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “So when the MS-13 comes in, when the other gang members come into our country, I refer to them as animals and guess what? I always will.”

So when referring to illegal aliens like the person who murdered Laken Riley or members of the MS-13 gang Trump used the words animals and sub-human. Was Trump being too vitriolic? Maybe but if you do a little research on the MS-13 gang for example you might change your mind. If you ask the parents of Laken Riley if Trump was too vitriolic I will venture a guess that their answer would be NO!

Let me present 2 hypotheticals… simplistic yes but useful never the less.

1st) Let’s assume you own a company and you have 500 hundred employees. You are having a party to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary. All your employees are invited and they can each bring a guest joining you and your family at your home. You get reliable information a day or two before your party that 1 or 2 of your guests will be showing up with serious contagious diseases that could be fatal for some people. The problem is you don’t who they are. You also find out that one or two of your guests will be in possession of drugs they will be selling. Again you don’t know who they are. One guest left his home country to avoid arrest for rape, another for murder. One guest is involved in child trafficking and could try and abduct a young person at the party. And though you know they will all be there you don’t know who they are. What do you do? You have a 1000 people coming and only a handful are “dangerous.” It is too late to set up security, do medical testing, run background checks etc. Ultimately you have 2 choices… go ahead with the party and risk what might be disastrous consequences or cancel it until you can actually set up all the necessary precautions needed to create as safe an environment as possible for your family and your guests. If you decide to go ahead with the party do you have an obligation to inform all your guests what you now know? I would think so! Is it sad that 99% of those who would have attended the party have to miss out? Yes but down the road, when the necessary precautions are set in place, the 99% will enjoy the party, SAFELY!

2) You live in a very nice gated/fenced community. However, the fence has been ripped down in part and the gates are stuck open. You leave for work. Coming home at the end of the work day you find 20 people have taken up residence in your home. Your neighbours find the same thing. You want the people to leave but they didn’t like where they lived before and want to stay. The government says you can’t evict them. In fact, you and your neighbours have to provide food for them, and pay for their health care and pay for their kids to go to school etc. One day one of them assaults your daughter, one sells drugs to your son. One day one commits a murder. What is the solution? More importantly, what is your solution?

I fully realize that the hypotheticals are simplistic but in essence on a much bigger scale this is the dilemma when it comes to the southern border of the USA. In among those crossing the border illegally are drug dealers, gang members, child traffickers, rapists and murderers. U.S. citizens are being forced to pay for people who have entered their country illegally. U.S. cities are already in financial crises and this only makes it worse and bluntly ordinary U.S. citizens, Hilary’s deplorables, are getting really “pissed.”

Finally we come to another favourite accusation right out of the Alinsky playbook… RACIST. A vote for Trump means I am racist. So before Covid hit, under the Trump administration, the Black unemployment rate hit a record low… that just might be the type of racism the Black community could probably use more of.

This next part however is one of my favourite set of facts…. The Obama administration and the Trump administration had exactly the same beginnings. By that I mean, Obama as a Democrat president controlled the Executive Branch when he first took office. The Democrats also controlled the Senate and the House of Representatives for his first 2 years in office. For Trump it was exactly the same. He controlled the Executive Branch and the Republicans controlled the Senate and the House. When that happens the President and his party have pretty much carte blanche to do what they want. One area that many people felt needed to be addressed was Criminal Justice Reform. Why… because of situations like the following…

However under the Trump Administration Criminal Justice Reform was addressed with the passing of the bi-partisan First Step Act and Tanesha Bannister got a 2nd chance. Out of the several thousand prisoners who got released early or had reduced sentences, 91% were black.

To the dismay I am sure of the Democrats, headlines like the following in the Western Journal appeared later… “Trump Honored with ‘Bipartisan Justice Award’ by Black Leaders for Criminal Justice Reform.”

Quoting the article “The Bipartisan Justice Award is the highest honor given annually to a public servant who has demonstrated the ability to work across the aisle to achieve meaningful progress in reforming our criminal justice system.”

It went on to say “The award is being given by the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center, a non-profit organization founded by 20 Black Republicans and 20 Black Democrats in 2015, to elevate the issue of criminal justice reform above partisan politics,” the release said.”

I can hear the keys being hit as someone wants to tell me that the only reason Trump did this was because he wanted to get more black votes. Maybe but I don’t think Tanesha Bannister cares why he did it. Using that logic I could suggest that apparently Obama had enough black votes that he didn’t care about getting a few more and therefore didn’t care about a 29 year old black women being locked up for life for selling drugs.

So am I Misogynistic, Islamophobic, Homophobic, Transphobic, Anti-Hispanic and a Racist if I voted for Trump? No…No…No…No…No…and No! I am a lot of things and some aren’t so good but please if you want to attack me for supporting Trump rise above the Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals playbook and give me facts that show why I should support Biden, oops Harris. You think Harris has a better economic plan, show me. You think she has a better border plan, show me. Foreign policy, crime, etc. show me!

But quit with the ridiculous accusations!
